Niall Boylan
Broadcaster Niall Boylan is running to be an MEP for the new Independent Ireland party in the Dublin constituency.
He is set to be formally announced by the party on Wednesday, who have dubbed him a “high profile” candidate.
He is shown to be registered to run for the party with the Dublin County Returning Officer.
Mr Boylan hosts ‘The Niall Boylan Show’ on Classic Hits FM and is not the first broadcaster to announce they will be standing for the new party.
Former RTÉ broadcaster Ciaran Mullooly is also running for a European seat with the party in the Midlands North West constituency.
Cork TD Michael Collins is the party’s leader, with Limerick TD Richard O’Donoghue the party’s general secretary. Independent Roscommon TD Michael Fitzmaurice has also joined the party.
MEP Clare Daly is also set to run again in Dublin; with Labour TD Aodhán Ó Ríordáin and People Before Profit TD Bríd Smith also registered.
Fine Gael Senator Regina Doherty has also been selected to run for the seat by the party but is not yet shown as being formally nominated. Fianna Fáil MEP Barry Andrews is also set to stand again.
Sinn Féin are to run Senator Lynn Boylan and Cllr Daithí Doolan in the Dublin European constituency.
Candidates also standing in the constituency include Philip Dwyer of the Ireland First party; Independents Stephen O’Rourke and Dr. Umar Al-Qadri; Andy Heasman of The Irish People; Diarmaid Ó Conaráin of the Irish Freedom Party.
Candidates still have until the end of the month to submit their nomination papers to returning officers.
