Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that Chelsea are definitely monitoring the progress of Brighton striker Evan Ferguson.
He told CaughtOffside that the striker is on the watchlist of a number of the biggest clubs in Europe ahead of a big future transfer.
Ferguson has established himself as easily one of the most exciting players in the Premier League right now.
However, any potential move to sign the youngster is going to set Chelsea back a large amount.
After signing a new contract at the Amex in recent weeks, his current club value him on the same level as Moises Caicedo, who the Blues signed for £115m.
Despite the extortionate fee, Romano has claimed there is definitely interest as far as Chelsea are concerned.
He said: “We keep seeing Brighton’s Evan Ferguson linked with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.
“I can confirm that big clubs like these are following Ferguson, because he’s a top talent, but it’s just normal scouting and monitoring – it would be surprising if they weren’t keeping an eye on an exciting young player like him!
“There is, however, nothing more concrete to report for the moment. Ferguson only recently signed a new contract with Brighton, so he’s fully focused on them.
“I’m told he’s really happy at Brighton and sees it as the best place for him to develop now, as we’ve seen with so many other top young players there in recent times.
“I’m sure we’re going to keep seeing links everywhere, but nothing is going to be decided now.”
Chelsea’s desire to bring in a striker has not been hidden, with it reported that they are looking for one in the elite category.
Reports have linked them closest to the signing of Victor Osimhen or Ivan Toney, with the latter the more achievable one in January.
