Hawken’s Ella Wong is a two-time state champion golfer.
On Oct. 15, the senior won a tight race for the Division II individual girls state championship at Ohio State’s Gray Course.
A year ago in 2021, Wong was crowned state champ with a two-day total of 146.
A year later, Wong carded back-to-back rounds of 76 en route to a 152 — one shot better than Crooksville’s Riley McKenzie, who had a 153.
On Oct. 15, Wong shot a 36 on the front nine, and a 40 on the back.
Her teammate Kate Petersen tied for 14th with a two-day total of 165. The Hawks were sixth in the girls team standings with a 727.
At the boys D-II tournament competed at OSU’s Scarlet Course on Oct. 15, Chagrin Falls was fourth in the team standings with a 678.
Lake Catholic (701) was eighth and NDCL (705) ninth.
The Cougars’ Dominik Cosic was the area’s top two-day performer. The senior was 12th with a 159 (80-79). Chagrin’s Sven Nielsen was 19th with a 163 (84-79).
Lake’s Jimmy Hoose was 26th with a 168 (79-89) and NDCL’s Jack Alexander tied for 27th with a 170 (83-87).
