The Chinese motorcycle industry continues to surprise the global market with its rapid evolution, and Zongshen, one of the country’s rising manufacturers, recently revealed a new concept that has been generating buzz among enthusiasts: the Cyclone RC 700 R.
This prototype, currently presented only as a rendering, exhibits clear aesthetic influences from the iconic MV Agusta Superveloce, one of the most admired Italian sports bikes. From the single circular headlight to the tapered fairing and handlebar-end mirrors, the similarities are undeniable.
However, beneath its Italian-inspired design, the Cyclone RC 700 R hides a heart with Japanese origins. The inline four-cylinder engine is allegedly a modified version of the Honda CB650R powerplant. Zongshen is said to have increased the stroke to 47.8 millimeters, increasing the displacement to 674cc and power to around 102 horsepower.
It is important to note that many of these Chinese concepts, although inspired by established European models, rarely reach the Old Continent market. However, the growing quality and ambition of Chinese manufacturers leave this possibility open for the future.
The presentation of the Cyclone RC 700 R comes at a time when China is emerging as one of the world’s fastest-growing motorcycle markets. Brands like CFMoto and QJ Motor have already demonstrated the country’s ability to produce quality motorcycles for the global market.
Nevertheless, the Zongshen concept raises questions about the fine line between inspiration and imitation in motorcycle design. It remains to be seen whether this prototype will reach production and, if so, what changes it will undergo to meet the demands of the real world and, possibly, differentiate itself more from its Italian inspirer.
